As a Resident Manager I have to perform the duties of checking all units and making sure everything is working properly. One of the things I enjoy a lot about my job is that I get to meet people from so many different cultures; I get to know their different kinds of cooking, religion, manners and more.
Many of our tenants invite me to sample their food, and it's totally amazing, it also gives me new ideas on how to cook or should I say "play" with my food at home.
With Saskatoon being such an ethnically diverse city, I always have a place to go when I need certain ingredients. There's a Farmers Market, many wonderful East Indian spice stores, and my favourites, as a Colombian, the Latin food stores.
The fact that Saskatoon is a relatively small city is great. You can get across the city in 15 minutes. So when you need ingredients and groceries you don't have to travel far, no matter where you in live in Saskatoon.
As an immigrant to Canada that did not speak English, my family and I migrated to Saskatoon – which entailed a huge culture shock coming from Colombia! I was excited to get a job interview and subsequently getting hired by Mainstreet, starting as a cleaner and then getting promoted to Resident Manager, my current position.
