Winnipeg Apartments
Winnipeg is famously known as the "Gateway to the West," a moniker which it earns as the dividing line between Central and Western Canada. The city's name draws from the nearby Lake Winnipeg, the word 'Winnipeg' being a Western Cree term meaning muddy waters. Research demonstrates that humans have been in the region for over 11,500 years, and the area where the Red and Assiniboine Rivers meet (known as "The Forks") has been a point of trade for centuries, as it represents the intersection of two major canoe routes used by indigenous peoples and settlers who came after. That area remains a historical site known as The Forks today and is located in the city's prominent Exchange District neighbourhood.
About Winnipeg
While the Prairies may summon images of fields of grain in summer and fields of ice and snow in Winter, Winnipeg's situation at the meeting of major rivers throws water all over that oversimplified picture. It may be true that the City's location on the Eastern tip of the Prairies makes it quite the drive to the next big city, but that's why the citizens have built upon their landscape such an impressive cityscape.
Winnipeg's skyline punches well above its weight, though, with many contemporary and historical buildings standing next to one another proudly; and those beautiful sunsets go all the way down, unbroken by far-flung hills stealing those last glimpses of sunlight. The city of Winnipeg is rich in culture, history, and population diversity, which is probably a big part of the reason Winnipeggers rate their quality of life so highly. Winnipeg's residents enjoy a combination of the best of urban life combined with that rural vibe: outdoor and sporting. The city boasts many cultural offerings and attractions which provoke thought as much as enjoyment.
