Time simply flies when you’re working with MEQ. I’ve just completed one year as a Leasing Agent and it has truly been an enriching experience. Not least of which is that I’ve had the opportunity to learn about the rental market here in Canada. When I joined the team I thought I was going to be the guy with the most unique and frankly, coolest background. I am of Chinese origin but born and bred in India.
On my first day I was mesmerized to see folks from all around the globe assembled under one roof – Philippines, Moldova, Colombia, Nigeria, China, India, Pakistan, all of these countries (and more) were represented. It would be a major oversight not to mention I met my first First Nations person (my bestie now) – it’s a veritable United Nations here at Mainstreet.
My initial days were overwhelming – understanding the business model, running around to locate the different properties, learning to operate the software. Once I settled down and understood the nuisances of leasing it became interesting and challenging. Today leasing gives me a sense of satisfaction; at the end of the day when I look at the tenant I see the happiness and relief in their eyes as they finally have a place call ‘home’.
I was humbled and touched when one of the tenants spontaneously gave me a hug and a peck on my cheek after she moved into her suite. I can still see the tears in her eyes and recall her quietly stating “this is my home now”.
This is my kick every morning – to reach out to as many people every day and bring a SMILE to their lives!
